Alpine Lakes Research and Education Centre (ALREC) is a living laboratory – a place where entrepreneurship and innovation will chart the course for Upper Clutha’s future. We facilitate action, ideas, conversation and research, designed to advance our environment and understanding of Alpine Lakes ecology.
As well as undertaking scientific projects relating to water, land, ecosystem function, biodiversity and climate change, we also connect community organizations -people who are thinking on a local and global scale – to businesses, residents and visitors.
It was the vision of the late ORC Councillor Dr. Maggie Lawton and Dr. Marc Schallenberg from the University of Otago.
ALREC is a place where we undertake locally important science and build on globally important ideas; building a new model for the stewardship of our environments
